Cedar Community Secondary School

The Regional District of Nanaimo secured council approval on May 7, 2026 for a Joint Use Agreement with School District 68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) to formalize shared community use of the outdoor pickleball and basketball courts at Cedar Community Secondary School. The motion carried unanimously with no discussion or conditions recorded. No public correspondence was received. The agreement makes permanent what had been de facto community use: the Pickleheads directory lists four outdoor asphalt courts at the school (pickleheads.com), and the RDN's engagement portal notes the courts were part of a broader Cedar Community Park expansion concept that also included a bike pump track and playground (getinvolved.rdn.ca). The formal agreement locks in public access without requiring further rezoning or capital expenditure, adding a low-maintenance recreational asset to the Cedar area.

The Regional District of Nanaimo has applied to rezone Cedar Community Secondary School, located on the RDN’s Electoral Area C. Council approved the application unanimously at the May 7, 2026 meeting.
