2050 Walsh Road

The RDN board was presented with the Cedar Playground Public Engagement – What We Heard Summary at its May 7, 2026 meeting, following an engagement that drew 93 responses. The themes raised most frequently were: - Accessibility - Safety surfacing - Shade and seating - Fenced play area - Water features An RDN news release earlier confirmed the district sought input on a new playground for Cedar Community Park (rdn.bc.ca). The item was for information only; no playground design or construction approval was attached to the board's consideration. With the summary now received, staff can proceed with design refinement and prepare a capital budget request. Construction at 2050 Walsh Road would likely follow in 2027-2028 if funding is secured in the next capital plan.

A rezoning application for 2050 Walsh Road will be considered by the Regional District of Nanaimo on May 7, 2026. An applicant has proposed the property for review. No final outcome has been determined at this time.
